Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Are treatments expensive?
A: Treatments can be performed by Tri-County Aquatics, Inc. for less than the homeowner can do it his/her self. Treatments range in price, depending upon the the size of the water body, and amount of vegetation in the water body.

Q: What types of chemicals are used in the applications?
A: The chemicals that are used in the applications are put into two categories, algaecides and herbicides. Algaecides are algae specific, and work on contact with the different types of algae. Herbicides are applied in a manner to control plants/weeds and are typically systematic. The plant/weeds absorb the chemical, killing the entire plant including the root system.

Q: Are there any water use restrictions?
A: Most of the products used in the control of aquatic vegetation have water use restrictions. The restrictions are minimal, usually not exceeding one week, and in some cases the restrictions are none. All of our treatment customers are notified of the restrictions on their waterways at the time of application.

Q: Are the chemicals used in the applications safe?
A: The products used to control the vegetation in any waterway are approved by the EPA and the Department of Agriculture, and are specifically made for the use in aquatic applications. When applied in the proper manner, they are very safe and pose no threat to humans, wildlife or fish.

Q: What gives some ponds that blue color?
A: Blue organic water dye is added to the water in a lot of applications that we perform. Blue dye is used to shade deeper parts of the water body in order to decrease the amount of sunlight that gets to the bottom of the water body. By decreasing the amount of sunlight that gets the bottom of the water body, you also decrease the amount of plants/weeds that grow.
