Tri-County Aquatics, Inc. has been selling, installing, servicing and using water aeration as a management tool for many years. Water aeration is on the cutting edge of aquatic management techniques. Aerating, oxygen-producing systems are an important tool in reviving and stabilizing the life-cycle of a water body. Dissolved oxygen (D.O.) is the single most important water quality need in any water body. Fish, naturally occurring organisms that work as food for fish, and other organisms all depend on oxygen for survival.
Under natural conditions, oxygen is produced from surface air diffusion, wind, and made by plants. This is not the case in every water body. With the introduction of an aeration system to a water body, an increased amount of oxygen is diffused into the water mechanically.
Ponds and lakes become stratified during certain times of the year. This stratification, layering, of a water body puts stress on a pond or lake. By introducing an aeration system, we begin to de-stratify, mix the water, and increase the levels of dissolved oxygen in the water column. The increase of dissolved oxygen levels is beneficial to every aspect of a water body. Increased D.O. levels in a water body increases the natural growth of organisms that act as a food source for fish, decreasing competition in a fish population, and increases the habitable areas for fish. Another major benefit that an aeration system can provide is the increase of water clarity, quality and the reduction of organic ‘muck’ buildup on the bottom of a water body. With the increased levels of D.O., we also increase the levels of beneficial aerobic bacteria. This naturally occurring bacteria will break down organic matter, ‘muck,’ which accumulates in a water body. Aerobic bacteria needs higher levels of D.O. than levels that occur naturally. Higher levels of D.O. are necessary to promote proper breakdown of these organic materials and to sustain an overall healthy environment.
Advantages of Aeration:
Eliminates stagnant, nonmoving, water
Increases dissolved oxygen levels
Improves fish food and habitat
Prevents winter fish kill
Eliminates odor problems
Reduces organic sediment
Improves water quality
Removes harmful bacteria and waterfowl diseases
Increases management options
Types of aeration systems:
Subsurface aerators, both electrical and wind powered
Surface aerators, better known as floating fountains
Tri-county Aquatics, Inc. carries the best aeration equipment in the industry: Vertex aeration equipment, the technology leader in lake aeration.
